Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” Becomes Law
The US House of Representatives passed a massive tax and spending cuts package, known as Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” and sent it to President Donald Trump’s desk for signature. The bill includes $4.5 trillion in tax cuts and spending reductions, with significant funding increases for national security and immigration enforcement. Trump signed the bill into law on July 4, 2025, just before the deadline he set.

What’s in the Bill?
The bill extends Trump’s 2017 tax cuts and introduces new ones, including doubling the child tax credit and eliminating taxes on tips and overtime. However, it also cuts Medicaid and food stamps by $1.2 trillion, which could leave 11.8 million more Americans uninsured by 2034 and 3 million more without food stamps. The bill also invests in border security and deportations, aligning with Trump’s priorities.

How Did Republicans React?
Most Republicans supported the bill, but a few lawmakers dissented. Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina announced his retirement after voting against the bill due to its healthcare reductions. Trump responded harshly, calling Tillis a “talker and complainer, NOT A DOER.” Other Republicans who voted against the bill include Senators Susan Collins and Rand Paul, and Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick and Thomas Massie.
