Chicago – February 08, 2026

American alpine skiing icon Lindsey Vonn saw her highly anticipated Olympic comeback come to a sudden and dramatic end after crashing just 13 seconds into the women’s downhill race at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

The event was one of the most eagerly awaited competitions of the Games, with fans around the world watching closely as Vonn attempted to return from retirement in pursuit of another Olympic medal. After successfully completing two training runs earlier in the week, expectations were high for the decorated skier. However, disaster struck early in her official race run.

onn’s crash occurred as she approached the fourth gate of the course. Her right arm clipped the gate at high speed, disrupting her balance just before the first major jump. The slight contact proved costly, throwing her off alignment as she launched into the air.

Unbalanced mid-flight, Vonn began spinning to her right before slamming hard onto the slope. The impact ended her run almost instantly, stunning spectators and fellow competitors alike.
