Chicago – February 23, 2026

Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias joined members of the Chicago community on Sunday morning to support the city’s police officers at the 12th Annual “Get Behind the Vest” Pancake Breakfast. The event, organized by Alderman Matt O’Shea, raises funds to provide bulletproof vests for Chicago Police Department officers, highlighting the city’s ongoing efforts to improve officer safety and strengthen community relations.

Giannoulias praised the initiative and expressed gratitude to organizers and attendees for their continued dedication to the city’s first responders. “It’s inspiring to see such strong community support for those who protect us every day,” he shared.

The annual breakfast has become a cornerstone fundraiser, bringing together families, local leaders, and law enforcement supporters to honor the service and sacrifice of Chicago’s police force. Proceeds from the event go directly toward purchasing new protective gear for officers on duty.
