An Iranian delegation has arrived in Pakistan for high-stakes talks with the United States aimed at preserving the fragile ceasefire and preventing a wider escalation in the region. US Vice President JD Vance departed Washington for Pakistan to lead the American side in the negotiations, which are expected to focus on de-escalation and broader peace terms.
Pakistan is hosting the discussions in a “proximity format,” with the two delegations staying at the same venue while Pakistani officials relay messages between them.
According to reports, the US transport aircraft carrying an advance security team has already landed at Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi, underscoring the tight security around the visit. Iranian officials, meanwhile, have said the talks should reflect previously agreed commitments, including a ceasefire in Lebanon and the release of blocked Iranian assets.
Officials describe the talks as a critical diplomatic test for both sides, with Pakistan playing the role of host and mediator. The outcome is expected to determine whether the current ceasefire can be sustained and expanded into a more durable regional understanding.
