Chicago – April 28, 2026

The United States and Iran clashed at the United Nations during a conference reviewing the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Washington criticized Tehran’s selection as a conference vice president, calling it an “affront” to global non-proliferation efforts. U.S. official Christopher Yeaw accused Iran of violating commitments, while Iranian envoy Reza Najafi dismissed the claims as politically motivated.

The dispute comes amid ongoing tensions, with U.S. President Donald Trump insisting Iran must never obtain nuclear weapons. Tehran maintains its nuclear program is peaceful but has proposed delaying talks while seeking an end to the conflict. The nuclear issue remains central to the standoff involving Iran, the U.S., and Israel.
