Chicago – April 15, 2026

Donald Trump sharply criticized Giorgia Meloni in an interview with Corriere della Sera, accusing her of lacking courage and disappointing Washington. Once a strong ally, Meloni distanced herself after Trump’s decision to go to war with Iran and recently condemned his remarks about Pope Leo XIV as “unacceptable.”

In response, Trump said she was not who he thought she was and criticized her refusal to support efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, currently blocked by Iran, adding that he was shocked and had misjudged her.
