Chicago – July 06, 2026

National Guard members on patrol in Memphis fatally shot a man during a pursuit, according to local authorities, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Memphis Police reported that the shooting occurred late Monday when National Guard personnel, assisting with public safety operations, encountered a suspect who allegedly fled on foot. Officials stated that during the pursuit, an altercation took place, leading to the discharge of a weapon by one or more Guard members.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

Authorities have not disclosed specific details about what led to the pursuit or whether the suspect was armed. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been called in to conduct an independent review of the shooting, in line with standard protocol for officer-involved incidents.

Local officials emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and urged the public to await verified information. Further updates are expected as investigators gather evidence and interview witnesses.
