Chicago – April 01, 2026

President Donald Trump said the United States could wind down its war with Iran within two to three weeks, even without a formal deal, while warning he is considering pulling the U.S. out of NATO if European allies do not help address the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump told Reuters the U.S. would be “out pretty quickly” and could return later for “spot hits” if needed, signaling a possible shift in the American military posture as the conflict drags on. His comments came as the International Energy Agency warned that global oil supplies are being hit twice as hard in April as in March, adding pressure on energy markets and fueling fears of wider economic disruption.

The remarks also sharpened tensions with allies, as Trump said he was “absolutely” considering NATO withdrawal if Europe does not do more to stop Iran from threatening the critical shipping route. Reuters reported that the war has already spread turmoil across the region and intensified shortages of jet fuel and diesel.
