Chicago – July 25, 2026

Retirees in the United States could receive an average increase of about $77 per month in Social Security benefits in 2027, according to early projections based on inflation trends and cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) estimates. If realized, the increase would provide additional financial support for millions of seniors facing rising costs for housing, healthcare, food, and other essential expenses.

The annual COLA is designed to help Social Security payments keep pace with inflation by adjusting benefits in line with changes in consumer prices. While the projected increase offers some relief, experts caution that the final adjustment will depend on inflation data collected over the coming months and may change before it is officially announced.

The Social Security Administration is expected to determine the 2027 COLA after reviewing economic data. Beneficiaries are encouraged to monitor official updates, as the final increase could differ from current forecasts depending on economic conditions.
