The United Arab Emirates has suspended all trade, commercial exchanges and financial transactions with Iran after accusing Tehran of launching two ballistic missiles toward the UAE. The decision, announced on Wednesday, comes amid escalating tensions in the Gulf and growing concerns over maritime security.
According to the UAE Defense Ministry, its air defenses detected two missiles launched from Iran. Both missiles fell into the Persian Gulf, and Emirati authorities later said their assessment indicated that the missiles were targeting maritime navigation. A nationwide warning briefly urged residents to seek shelter.
Iran has denied launching the missiles toward the UAE, calling the accusation baseless. Tehran’s denial means the circumstances surrounding the launches remain disputed.
The trade suspension represents a major escalation between two countries that have historically maintained extensive commercial ties. The UAE, particularly Dubai, has served as an important gateway for Iranian trade and access to international markets.
The move could further pressure Iran’s economy while increasing risks for regional trade and shipping through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
