Chicago – June 19, 2025

On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump hosted Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, at the White House in a historic meeting. This marked the first time a U.S. president had met with Pakistan’s top military official without the presence of senior civilian leaders from Pakistan.

During the lunch, President Trump expressed his honor in meeting Munir and mentioned that they discussed several topics, including Iran. Trump highlighted that Pakistan, with its deep knowledge of the region, had a unique perspective on the matter. The president also claimed he had thanked Munir for helping to prevent further conflict between Pakistan and India.

According to Pakistan’s military, the two leaders talked about trade, economic development, and cryptocurrency, along with discussing the ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran. It was expected that Munir would urge Trump to avoid getting involved in Israel’s conflict with Iran and to push for a ceasefire. Pakistan has strongly condemned Israel’s airstrikes on Iran, calling them a violation of international law and a threat to regional peace.

This meeting raised concerns, as it could potentially worsen the ongoing disagreement between the U.S. and India, especially regarding Trump’s comments about ending the India-Pakistan conflict.
