The Owaisi Family’s Role in Preserving Dholak Songs
This tradition was first carried forward by the family’s grandfather. He was a Muslim preacher whose original name was Kishan Osa, and he was from Latur district in Maharashtra. Later, he changed his name to Syed Ahmad.
Then, this tradition passed to his son, Abdul Wahad Owaisi, who was the first to be known by the Owaisi name. He was a lawyer by profession. He passed this tradition on to his son, Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, who was the second generation known by the Owaisi name.
A Musical Tradition Passed Through Generations
His sons, Asaduddin Owaisi and Akbaruddin Owaisi, took on the responsibility of preserving and carrying this art forward during their father’s later years. They represent the third generation of the Owaisi name in this new lineage.
Because of their efforts, dholak songs remain a living tradition today rather than becoming forgotten. In the future, this trust will be passed on to their children and to the children of their brother, whose mother is a practicing Catholic Christian. In this way, future generations will continue to celebrate and preserve this tradition.
