Chicago January 15, 2025

Pam Bondi, President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for U.S. attorney general, is set to face the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday for her confirmation hearing. Bondi, a former Florida attorney general, has been a long-time ally of Trump, dating back to 2013.

Bondi’s nomination came after Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz withdrew from consideration due to sexual misconduct allegations. Trump praised Bondi, saying she was “smart and tough” and would “do a terrific job as Attorney General!”

As attorney general, Bondi would be the first Republican woman to hold the office. She has a strong background in law enforcement, having served as Florida’s chief legal officer from 2011 to 2019. Bondi also represented Trump during his first impeachment trial.

The Senate Judiciary Committee will livestream the confirmation hearing, which is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. ET on Wednesday. It’s unclear what questions the Republican-controlled Senate will ask Bondi, but her relationship with Trump and her experience as a prosecutor are likely to be topics of discussion.

If confirmed, Bondi would join a long list of notable women who have held the position of attorney general, including Janet Reno, Loretta Lynch, and Sally Yates.
