Congress MP Rahul Gandhi criticized RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata and local officials over the recent rape and murder of a trainee doctor. He accused them of trying to protect the accused instead of seeking justice for the victim. In a post on X, Gandhi expressed shock at the brutal crime and noted that it has created fear among doctors and women. He questioned the actions of the hospital and local authorities in handling the case.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced a protest to demand justice for the victim. She has asked the CBI, which has taken over the investigation from the Kolkata Police, to deliver justice by next Sunday. Banerjee also plans to lead a rally from Moulali to Dharmtala in Kolkata on August 17 to highlight the need for justice and safety.
