It has been clarified that Congress leader Sonia Gandhi will contest in the Lok Sabha elections from Telangana, specifically from Khammam. State party chiefs have reportedly received this information from the Congress leadership. Last month, the state Congress party proposed Sonia’s candidacy for the Lok Sabha from Telangana and forwarded the suggestion to the leadership, to which she agreed in principle.
Initially, there was some uncertainty regarding the choice of constituency. Recent information suggests that clarity has been achieved in this matter. Congress sources anticipate that Sonia’s candidacy will not only have a positive impact in Telangana but also in states like Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. It is noteworthy that the UPA government, led by Sonia Gandhi, played a pivotal role in the creation of Telangana state in 2014.
This achievement has been extensively emphasized by state party leaders in recent assembly elections. They urged the people to support the party that played a crucial role in the formation of Telangana. Before the announcement of the election schedule, Sonia Gandhi participated in a massive public meeting called Vijayabheri in Tukkuguda on September 17.
Even after ten years since the formation of the state, Congress leaders were able to strongly advocate for the issue of Telangana, given impetus by the Tukkuguda meeting attended by Sonia. Against this backdrop, the state party has discussed leveraging Sonia’s brand effectively in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
