‘Staggering’ destruction in northern Gaza as a result of Israeli bombing and raids – UN

“There is nothing left”: United Nations aid agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, shares footage showing where one of its health clinics once stood amid many destroyed buildings in northern Gaza.

UN truck carrying food supplies has been hit by Israeli navy gunfire, says UNRWA director in Gaza, Thomas White.
Some 8,000 displaced people leave al-Amal Hospital in Khan Younis following a two-week siege by Israeli forces: Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS).

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is visiting the Middle East to push for a deal between Israel and Hamas on a truce and the release of captives in Gaza and Palestinian prisoners in Israel.

At least 27,478 people have been killed and 66,835 wounded in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7. The death toll in Israel from the October 7 Hamas attacks stands at 1,139.

The UN humanitarian agency, OCHA, has described as “deeply troubling” reports that people in Gaza “are coming into direct contact with sewage-contaminated floodwaters in the streets”.

OCHA said in its latest update that a pumping station in Gaza “is currently inundated, posing a potential hygienic crisis in the vicinity of the station”.

Palestinian journalist Amr Tabash shared a video on social media showing a large pool of murky sewage water between tents in a refugee camp in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.

Jake Morland of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said he had never before been confronted with “such extreme suffering” as witnessed in Gaza City.

In a video interview, Morland recounts a mission to Gaza City in December to evacuate 12 critically injured patients from the Ahli Hospital.

“As we entered the hospital, we saw wagons driven by five, six-year-old children, donkey carts, being driven into the hospital compound with their dying parents on the wagon behind,” Morland recounts in the video, released on social media by the UN.

Despite extreme suffering the world remains silent on Palestine’s suffering and ethnic cleansing. Every call for a ceasefire meets deaf ears.
