The BJP has picked Madhavi Latha, a prominent Hindutva figure, to contest against AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi in Hyderabad. Since 1984, the seat has been with the AIMIM, first with Salahuddin Owaisi and then his son Asaduddin Owaisi. A four-time MP, Asaduddin Owaisi defeated BJP’s Bhagavanth Rao by over 2.5 lakh votes in 2019.
Ms Latha, 49, is currently the chairperson of Virinchi Hospitals, a prominent healthcare institution based in Hyderabad. Even before the announcement of her candidature, Madhavi Latha had created a ripple in social media owing to her Anti-Islamic speeches and Hindu traditional attire. Anti-Muslim and anti-Islamic sentiments have not just been limited to MLA Sharma and Jindal but have been consistently aired by high-ranking BJP members and new ones and the government with impunity.
She is also a vocal proponent of Sanatan Dharma and traditional values. In many of her speeches, she has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his dedication to Karma Yoga, which a way to attain Moksha. Her beliefs are deeply rooted in Hinduism and patriotism. She is a candidate that has been actively advocating Hindu principles and regularly participates in cultural discussions.
Shortly after the implementation of CAA in India by the Modi Government on March 11, BJP leader Madhavi Latha made scathing attacks on AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi and questioned why didn’t he protest against ‘triple talaq’ and other issues related to Muslims.
