On Tuesday, Congress claimed victory after the government withdrew its advertisement for lateral entry into bureaucracy, attributing the move to a campaign led by party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and the INDIA bloc. The Congress stated that this decision shows that the power of the Constitution can defeat the “arrogance of a dictatorial regime.”
Rahul Gandhi emphasized that the Congress will protect the Constitution and the reservation system, promising to block any attempts by the BJP to undermine them. Union Minister Jitendra Singh had earlier asked the UPSC to cancel the advertisement to ensure marginalized communities receive proper representation in government jobs.
Kharge celebrated the withdrawal, declaring that the Congress’s fight for social justice had stopped the BJP’s plans to eliminate reservations. He warned, however, that the BJP-RSS would continue to find new ways to challenge the reservation system, urging everyone to stay vigilant.
