Hyderabad, Rangareddy, and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts have undergone significant voter list updates in the past two years. During this electoral roll cleanup by the Election Commission of India, 9 lakh voters were removed and 14 lakh new ones were added in Greater Hyderabad, bringing the total to over 1 crore voters, equally divided between males and females.
In the cleanup process, Hyderabad saw over 5.41 lakh voters removed due to changes in residence, duplicates, and deceased voters. Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts saw 2.6 lakh and over 80,000 voters removed, respectively.
The effort involved about 11,000 staff members and followed standard procedures using forms for updates and deletions.
Additionally, corrections were made to approximately 5 lakh electoral bonds. In terms of voter distribution, Serilingampally leads with 7.47 lakh voters, followed by Quthbullapur, Medchal, and LB Nagar, while Charminar has the fewest at 2.28 lakh.
K Shashanka, Rangareddy’s district election officer, mentioned that special polling stations, including those run by women, PWDs, and youth, are being set up to increase voter participation. Various activities and displays are also being organized to encourage voter engagement.
About 10,000 polling stations will accommodate the region’s nearly 1 crore voters.
