A new Counter-Fentanyl Strike Force was announced on Monday by US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to crack down on the criminal financial networks that support cartels and drug traffickers and aid in the drug’s entry into the United States.
According to the Treasury Department, the new strike force, which is an integral component of the department’s endeavors to combat the lethal fentanyl trade, will optimize personnel and resources throughout the organization to more effectively utilize its knowledge in combating the financial crimes that fund the networks that facilitate the fentanyl trade.
“The Treasury Department’s Counter-Fentanyl Strike Force will allow us to bring the Department’s unrivalled expertise in fighting financial crime to bear against this deadly epidemic. Treasury will use every tool at its disposal to disrupt the ability of drug traffickers to peddle this poison in our country,” Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in a statement Monday.
