U.S. President Joe Biden returned to Washington on Saturday afternoon to speak with his national security team, a day after stating he expected an Iranian attack on Israel “sooner than later.”
The White House announced Saturday that Biden had cut short his weekend vacation to Delaware to address Middle Eastern affairs.
As Biden prepared to return to Washington, Israel placed its troops on high alert and canceled all educational and youth programs.
Earlier on Saturday, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin met with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant to address “urgent regional threats,” according to the Pentagon and reaffirmed the United States’ full support for Israel against strikes by Iran and its proxies.
Jake Sullivan, Biden’s national security advisor, delivered a similar message of U.S. support to his Israeli counterpart, Tzachi Hanegbi, he said in a post on X.
