BRS-BJP tie-up likely in TS to fight Cong

Chicago – December 13, 2023

Following the defeat of the BRS in the recent Assembly elections, Karnataka politics may be repeated in Telangana. There is a chance that the BRS and the BJP will form a coalition to control the ruling Congress in Telangana in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The reigning BJP was defeated in the Karnataka Assembly elections, and the main opposition party, Congress, took control. The Janata Dal (S) did not receive the expected number of Assembly members. The Janata Dal anticipated a hung Assembly was possible, and it could play a crucial role in establishing the new government. However, the Congress obtained the necessary majority and constituted the government.

The Janata Dal (S) joined the BJP-led NDA to contain the Congress in the next Lok Sabha elections. The Congress is Telangana’s primary political foe of the BRS and the BJP. Controlling the Congress in the Lok Sabha elections has become essential for the BRS and BJP.

Both the BRS and the BJP may have no objections to a collaboration in this situation. However, if the BRS allies with the BJP, it will lose the backing of a friendly party, AIMIM. The current political situation in Telangana suggests that the AIMIM may tighten ranks with the ruling Congress.

If this occurs, there will be no impediments to the BRS forming a partnership with the BJP.
