If elected at the Centre, the Congress will grant 50% reservation for women in central government positions, All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba said today.
Lamba was in town for the charge-taking ceremony of Chandigarh Pradesh Mahila Congress president Nandita Hooda.
Lamba stated that while the Congress manifesto has touched all areas of the country, it includes a unique provision called “Naari Nyay” (justice for women).
Aside from 50% reservation in government positions, one woman in every disadvantaged household in the country will receive Rs 1 lakh in her bank account each year, she stated.
The Mahila Congress president claimed that the last ten years of Modi’s administration had been detrimental to the country and its women. Rape victims were patronized and protected under BJP administration, she claimed, referring to a protest by female Olympians.
Manish Tewari, a former union minister, and INDIA bloc candidate from Chandigarh, thanked Mahila Congress leaders and workers for their support during his campaign.
He said that the late Rajiv Gandhi initiated reservation for women in municipal authorities, which was now being expanded to include legislative bodies as well.
