The Israeli military has stated that it expects the fighting in Gaza to go on until 2024. In a New Year’s message, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) spokesman said that force deployments were being changed to prepare for “prolonged fighting.”
According to the Palestinian health ministry, 21,978 individuals have been murdered in Gaza since October 7, predominantly women and children. Among the fatalities are 8000 children killed in the last 3 months. According to the most recent data, 56,697 persons were injured in Gaza during the same time period.
WHO stated that due to the lack of medicine, the children in Gaza are going through amputations and brain surgeries without anesthesia. The situation in Gaza is heart-wrenching and inhumane.
On 7 October, Hamas fighters launched an unprecedented cross-border raid on southern Israel, killing 1,200 people, the majority of whom were civilians, and taking 240 others captive.
Israel continues to pound Gaza until the end of a dark year in the region. According to the UN, 85% of Gaza’s 2.4 million residents – nearly two million – have been uprooted.
On Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that “the war is at its height.” Bezalel Smotrich, Israel’s far-right Finance Minister, has called on Palestinians to leave Gaza to make way for Israelis who can “bloom the desert.”
