The Congress party is allegedly considering nominating Hyderabad-born Indian tennis player Sania Mirza in the next Lok Sabha elections, which is an unexpected political move.
According to an Indian financial journal, Mohammed Azharuddin, a Congress leader and former Indian captain, suggested Sania’s candidacy. Azharuddin has close ties to the Mirza family because his son is married to Anam Mirza.
Mirza is an ideal candidate since she is a woman from a minority group and was formerly Hyderabad’s ambassador for the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS). However, Congress can’t win from Hyderabad because Asaduddin Owaisi is a strong candidate who can not be defeated.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Asaduddin Owaisi, the chairman of All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), emerged victorious among 14 contenders, obtaining 58.94% of the total votes cast. He is a powerful speaker who always speaks about Muslim rights.
