Farmers refused the Indian Government’s offer to buy 5 crops on MSP; the the'Dilli Chalo' march to restart on February 21

Chicago – February 19, 2024

On Monday, farmers’ leaders rejected the Centre’s proposal for government agencies to buy pulses, maize, and cotton at MSP for five years, claiming it was not in the farmers’ best interests.

The plan was presented to farmers on Sunday during the fourth round of talks in Chandigarh by a panel of three Union ministers: Piyush Goyal, Arjun Munda, and Nityanand Rai.

On Monday, farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal stated, “After discussions (on the Centre’s proposal) in our two forums, it has been decided that the Centre’s proposal is not in the best interests of farmers, and we reject it.” The Union Government should make a decision and notify us in writing. We will continue with the ‘Dilli Chalo’ march on February 21.”
