Chicago – December 25, 2023
The occupied West Bank’s Christmas Day began with an attack on the Jenin refugee camp and multiple arrests.
The raid on Monday morning followed numerous others across the region, which resulted in dozens of arrests and a 17-year-old teenager being shot in the neck. Bethlehem was one of the towns impacted.
Jenin, widely seen as a symbol of Palestinian resistance to occupation, has been frequently attacked by Israeli forces since the beginning of Israel’s conflict with Hamas in Gaza on October 7.
The Jenin-based Freedom Theatre, a famous symbol of peace and hope recently invaded and vandalized by Israeli soldiers, detailed how Israeli forces lit up the sky “with flare bombs” when assaulting the camp on Monday.
While the raids in the camp and Jenin region appear to have halted, at least nine young men were apprehended in al-Jalama village, northeast of Jenin.
Israeli police also attacked areas surrounding Nablus, Jericho, Ramallah, and Bethlehem, which Christians believe is the birthplace of Jesus Christ.
