Amos Shani Atzmon, an Israel Defence Forces (IDF) reservist, says he does not blame Palestinians in Gaza for their current hate for Israel. The Ministry does not discriminate between Hamas fighters and civilians but reports that around 70% of the deaths are women and children.
Meanwhile, Atzmon hopes Israel will move towards a two-state solution. “The Palestinians will not stop fighting us until they get their own autonomy. And I believe the ultimate goal must be that” he stated.
The world community, including some of Israel’s closest allies, is becoming outraged by the extent of the carnage against civilians in Gaza.
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled that it was “plausible” that Israel was committing genocide in Gaza and ordered Israel to “take all measures” to limit the death and destruction caused by its military campaign, prevent and punish incitement to genocide, and ensure humanitarian access.
Regardless, very nothing has changed on the ground.
IDF soldiers’ political opinions can be complex to reconcile with the realities of being soldiers and fighting for a government they do not support.
