A prominent member of Israel’s war cabinet has accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of not speaking the truth about the military objectives in Gaza.
Mr. Netanyahu has publicly rejected the US demand for a future Palestinian state, insisting that the offensive would continue “until complete victory.”
However, Gadi Eisenkot stated that those demanding “absolute defeat” of Hamas were not “speaking the truth.” The retired general’s son was killed while fighting in Gaza.
In an interview with Israel’s Ch-12 Uvda, he also stated that Mr Netanyahu bears “sharp and clear responsibility” for failing to safeguard his country on October 7 and demanded new elections, stating there is “no trust” in Israel’s current leadership.
As the divide between Israel and its Western allies deepens, there are rumors of tensions within the cabinet, including a lack of communication between the prime minister and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
John Kirby, the national security adviser for the White House, stated that Israel and the US “clearly see things differently” in response to Mr. Netanyahu’s remarks regarding Palestinian statehood.
