The north of Gaza has no operational hospitals, and injured patients who need surgery but cannot be evacuated are “waiting to die,” according to the UN health agency, in a call for a truce to let more help into the shattered enclave.
The World Health Organization (WHO) issued the most recent grave evaluation after UN teams arrived at Al Ahli Arab Hospital and Al Shifa Hospital on Wednesday.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres highlighted the need to alleviate the deteriorating humanitarian crisis in Gaza on Thursday, saying that “intense fighting, lack of electricity, limited fuel, and disrupted telecommunications” had severely limited the UN’s efforts to provide life-saving aid to people in the enclave.
