Following the US Supreme Court’s 2022 Dobbs ruling, over 65,000 rape-related pregnancies are anticipated to have occurred in the 14 states with near-total abortion bans; nevertheless, just 10 legal abortions are done monthly on average in these states.
The results show that abortion laws make it difficult for most rape victims to obtain abortions in their home states, even for the minority of persons who live in states with rape exemptions, according to researchers.
The statistics come as rape exceptions have fallen out of favor among anti-abortion activists and lawmakers, despite the fact that most Americans feel that victims of an assault should have access to abortion and that abortion is “morally acceptable”.
