President Joe Biden urged with Republicans on Wednesday for more military aid for Ukraine, warning that a Russian victory would put Moscow in a position to attack NATO members and potentially draw US forces into a war.
Biden said as the US prepared to offer an additional $175 million in Ukraine aid from its diminishing funds for Kyiv. To get Republican backing, he indicated a willingness to make significant changes to US migration policies along the border with Mexico.
The Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, was quoted by Russia’s RIA news agency stating that Biden’s statements on a hypothetical U.S.-Russia battle were “provocative rhetoric unacceptable for a responsible nuclear power.”
Later that day, Senate Republicans blocked Democratic-backed legislation that would have provided billions of dollars in new security assistance to Ukraine and Israel, among other international concerns, saying they wanted to emphasize the importance of tighter border policy.
The White House warned that the United States is running out of time and funds to assist Ukraine in repelling Russia’s invasion.
