Chicago – January 15, 2024
Lowa is the first significant state-wide vote to determine who would be the Republican US presidential nominee in the 2024 election. The caucus votes begin at 19:00 local time (20:00 ET/01:00 GMT) in schools, churches, and small events throughout the state.
However, voters will have to endure temperatures as low as -23C (-9F) after winter storms blanketed the state in snow and ice.
According to the most recent poll, Donald Trump is the top choice of 48% of Iowa voters, followed by Nikki Haley (20%) and Ron DeSantis (16%). The candidates have been encouraging their followers to brave the elements, with Trump stating, “Even if you vote and then die, it’s worth it.”
A good second-place finish for Haley or DeSantis might give them a lift in the months-long race to determine a candidate for the November election.
